Platforming Goodness, or HoMD #43

Geek alert!

As you know I have a Wii. My wonderful husband gave it to me for Christmas. And I love it. I played some Zelda last night and enjoyed myself immensely.

But the love of video games began with the PlayStation, and two of my favorite characters will appear on the PS2 in March. Sony announced today that Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters for the PS2 goes on sale in March.

Giant Clank will destroy all enemies. He will not be denied.

How do I love today? Let me count the ways:

  • I had a great phone call with my Godson who lives in KC (he called me!). He was full of his usual energy and happiness.
  • As part of a big outing, The Husband and I went to IKEA and found some fabulous stuff, including a “night tower” (a tall dresser I plan to use as a nightstand), new mixing bowls, and a throw for the sofa.
  • There was socializing with one of our friends. We drove over to his house (after the IKEA excursion), and he kindly treated us to a delicious dinner.  Afterwards we hung out at his house and played Wii sports.
  • I busted through the 100-point score ceiling in bowling. What 100-point ceiling, you ask? That would be my 100-point ceiling. But no longer, because our friend (who took bowling in college) coached me to a personal best of 193!

It was a very, very good day.

My Big Project, or HoMD #25

When the New Year rolled around I looked at my life and found some things I’d like to change. Considering my life is pretty much a shanty leaned up against a pile of mouldering refuse less than ideal at the moment, improvement shouldn’t provide much of a challenge.

Anyway, I noted among a number of things that I want to entertain more often. I enjoy having people over to the house, cooking, talking, and generally interacting with other humans. I also want to do more to help my fellow humans. So I devised a way to accomplish both at once.

This year I will throw at least one dinner party a month and ask anyone who attends to provide a cash donation of how much they would have spent on dinner that night. At the end of the year all of the money will be donated to Heifer International in the names of all the guests.

Tonight was the first dinner party. Only two people were able to come, but we had a delicious meal and then played some Wii. The menu included Cheddar Corn Chowder soup with salad and bread. Thanks to The Husband and D. for pitching in with the cooking. Wii-wise we made some miis and played some Mario Party 8. Good times!

Our friends brought their daughter over for the first part of the evening. Though she played shy with us, we still enjoyed seeing her and her fantastic pink(!) hair.

A visit from the elfin folk is always welcome at this house.

Overall I deem the evening a success and a great start to a bigger endeavor.

Wii Had Fun, or HoMD #3

Blog 365 lives on here at The Bog.

My BFF assured me that writing a post in your head counts as a daily post. I’m simply transcribing from this point forward.

Today was all about the Wii. To maximize Wii fun, we needed an additional Wii-mote. Unfortunately, not a single Wii-mote could be had for love or money in our little city. I know because I called six or eight GameStops, every Target, and a Circuit City without finding a single one. Until my brilliant husband suggested calling Fry’s.

Flush with the triumph of finding an extra Wii-mote, we came home and fired up the Wii. And the silliness commenced with the creation of two Miis (Wii avatars)–one for each of our cats.
