Indulging My Fussy Side, or HoMD #41

February 10th, 2008

Today I downloaded album art for my iTunes. Then I started slogging through my albums to find missing art and then searching for it on the web.

I haven’t the first clue why I felt compelled to fill in the blank spots. I chalk it up to being anal retentive. Ultimately getting rid of the blank spots in my iTunes doesn’t accomplish anything, but I nonetheless feel a sense of accomplishment.

Sifting through iTunes provided the pleasant by-product of rediscovering neglected music. I forgot how joy-inducing I find Los Amigos Invisibles.

Embarassment of Riches, or HoMD #40

February 9th, 2008

How do I love today? Let me count the ways:

  • I had a great phone call with my Godson who lives in KC (he called me!). He was full of his usual energy and happiness.
  • As part of a big outing, The Husband and I went to IKEA and found some fabulous stuff, including a “night tower” (a tall dresser I plan to use as a nightstand), new mixing bowls, and a throw for the sofa.
  • There was socializing with one of our friends. We drove over to his house (after the IKEA excursion), and he kindly treated us to a delicious dinner.  Afterwards we hung out at his house and played Wii sports.
  • I busted through the 100-point score ceiling in bowling. What 100-point ceiling, you ask? That would be my 100-point ceiling. But no longer, because our friend (who took bowling in college) coached me to a personal best of 193!

It was a very, very good day.

Strange Medicine, or HoMD #39

February 8th, 2008

This post will convince you that I’m very, very weird.

Last night I slept with soap and trumpet the results. I heard a segment on NPR that convinced me to try this home remedy.

I refuse to deny the placebo effect in this case, but last night I didn’t have to hide my feet from The Husband’s twitchy legs seeking to tickle me.

Ramblin’ Girl, or HoMD #38

February 7th, 2008

In the flush of health I set out from my abode and ran some errands today. Actually I walked some errands.

It’s entirely possible I could have been arrested because no one in Texas would be caught dead walking to the store when they could drive. I think it’s illegal here to run errands without using hydrocarbons and polluting the atmosphere.

Anyway I managed to hit the post office, our vet, and SuperTarget during my travels. To end on a wimpy note, The Husband picked me up from SuperTarget so we could go to dinner. When we drove home we determined I walked over two miles on my errands (not counting the hour I wandered around Target). Not bad for a recent sickie.

Feeling Human Again, or HoMD #37

February 6th, 2008

Last night I took my last dose of penicillin from my recent illness and today… today I did not once feel puking like my guts out.

And that, dear readers, qualifies as an extended highlight for the day.

Obamamania, or HoMD #36

February 5th, 2008

Love that Barack Obama won big on Super Tuesday!

I have my issues with Obama. In particular I hate that he supported Joe Lieberman in Connecticut’s 2006 senate primary race. I’m also disappointed that he supports a border fence. That border fence is a boondoggle–it will leave gaping holes around the properties of rich and/or connected constituents (link connects to an article from the venerable Texas Observer on the subject).

Despite these (and other) concerns I support Obama, and I love seeing him win these primaries.

All Day Long, or HoMD #35

February 4th, 2008

We suffered the final throes of illness today. I think we’re both on the upswing from here, but we spent this last day lolling on the sofa, dozing and watching TV.

The Husband took a series of photos the summed up our day perfectly. I combined them into a montage that I think is quite compelling. I call it “Awake – Yawn – Sleep.”

Enjoy!

Success, or HoMD #34

February 3rd, 2008

I finished cleaning off the dining table and my desk!

In fact, I’m sitting at my desk typing this very post. I haven’t seen the surface of this desk in months, and it feels amazing to reclaim it. I would provide a photo of my “cleared” workspace, but I’m serving as cat furniture at the moment and can’t get to my camera. I’ll post a photo sometime soon.

I do apologize to all three of my readers for the apocalypse this will trigger, but it had to be done.

Back in the Saddle, or HoMD #33

February 2nd, 2008

This illness, this sickness, this ick of my body will not win. It will not triumph over me. I will survive its nasty phlegm and low-grade nausea.

How do I know I will emerge the victor from this protracted battle?

I know because hope shined on me today, and I basked in its warm rays. I saw in hope’s bright light that there is more to existence than mere existence. Life offers more than fitful naps and lame television. I can actually do things I like to do.

I can knit.

I said there was hope. I didn’t say I felt better. Knitting is as far as I go for now.

What Misery Loves, or HoMD #32

February 1st, 2008

Sadly my extended stay on the sofa didn’t keep The Husband out of germ range because the poor man got ambushed. He came home early from work to suffer in relative comfort.

At least we can sleep in the same bed again.
